A church appears

Riley Adamson started the Church of the Sacred Whale of 9th and 9th in November 2022, several months after Out of the Blue appeared in the roundabout. During Utah's record 2022–23 snow season, the Church gave the growing weather legend a name, a website, and an enthusiastically aquatic vocabulary.

The Church is a documented, self-described church and community project. Local reporting identifies its founder and public following; its own site publishes a mission, commandments, scriptures, and member services. Those are facts about the Church's existence and activity, not claims that the Whale controls the snow.

What it says it believes

The Church's stated mission is to protect individual freedom and the natural world while bringing people closer to the divine Sacred Whale. Its site expresses those principles through commandments, scriptures, blessings, and the Second Whalecoming, blending recognizable religious forms with openly Whale-centered theology.

The site also says that more than 95 percent of its writing was made with ChatGPT and its images with Midjourney. That disclosure is part of the documented story: the Church openly uses generated scripture and imagery as part of its public expression.

The Church's place in the neighborhood is real. Claims that the Whale brought the snow, governs good weather, or awaits a Second Whalecoming belong to local legend and faith rather than the meteorological record.

The distinction does not ask whether anyone is sincere. It simply separates documented people, words, and activities from supernatural claims that Whale Fortunes cannot verify.
