Whale Fortunes

Accessibility

Updated August 1, 2026

The Whale should be reachable by everyone.

Houndtrust LLC aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA. This page describes what has been done, what has not, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.

What is in place today

The experience is built from ordinary headings, buttons, links, and form fields, so it can be operated with a keyboard alone. Focus is visible, and it moves to the new heading each time the Whale changes what it is doing, so a screen reader announces where you have arrived.

The question field and the optional name field are labelled. The word count is announced as it changes. Decorative artwork is hidden from assistive technology rather than described with noise, and the page declares its language.

If your device asks for reduced motion, the Whale honours it: the pondering line appears at once instead of typing, and animation is removed rather than merely shortened.

A safety response is never decorative. When the Whale steps out of character, that message is plain text, is announced, and does not depend on colour or animation to be understood.

Rituals are always optional

A ritual never requires movement, standing, speech, or a particular physical setting. Skip any ritual for any reason. Nothing about a fortune depends on performing one, and a future ritual that suggests physical activity must always ship with a seated and limited-mobility version of equal standing.

Where we know we fall short

This is a small, young experience and it has not been audited by an independent accessibility specialist. We have not tested it with the full range of screen readers, magnifiers, switch devices, or voice control, and we have not verified every colour pairing against contrast requirements at every size.

We would rather say that plainly than claim a conformance we have not measured. If something here does not work for you, that is a fault worth reporting, not an edge case.
